Living Forests
Living Forests is a magazine produced in English and Chinese about biodiversity in South China. With conservation news and articles, it encourages the exchange of ideas and experiences among nature conservationists, and tells the stories of people who have made key contributions to conservation in the region. We ceased publishing the hard copy and online versions, but you can read highlights of the issues by following the links below:

Field Report Series
A major goal of our programme is to throw light on the distribution and status of the region's animal and plant species, the conservation value of the areas studied, and the urgent threats they face. Since 1998, we have carried out rapid biodiversity assessments with partner institutions of over 50 forest areas in Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan. To date, we have published more than 40 field reports to guide conservationists, academics and nature reserve managers across China.

Wildlife Market Survey Report
Though the live wild animal trade in southern China is very active, there have been few long-term studies of the main markets. The team, therefore, conducted a wildlife market survey in Guangzhou and Shenzhen from 2000 to 2003. This study revealed the species being traded, the relative trade volume in the markets, and the implications for conserving the animals left in the wild.

* Sustaining the Pulse - Managing for Biodiversity Conservation in South China's Forest Nature Reserves (trial version)
This manual is a work-in-progress about nature reserve management in South China. It covers a wide range of topics including management objectives and fundamental principles, leadership and team-building, inventory and monitoring, patrolling and recording, ecosystem and species recovery, public awareness and participation, training, funding and organisational growth. It is a learning aid tailored to meet the needs of nature reserve management staff and conservation advisers working in South China. This "trial" version, in both English and Chinese, is now available online. As many views are better than one, your feedback is vital so as to make the "final version" more inspiring and useful to the people working to preserve South China's biodiversity. Thank you in advance for your kind support.

Hainan Gibbon story book
Kadoorie Conservation China, a department of KFBG, have worked hand-in-hand with Hainan Bawanglig National Nature Reserve (BWL) since 2003 to protect the world’s most critically endangered primate – the Hainan Gibbon. Our collaborative work includes population survey and monitoring, scientific research, habitat protection and enhancement, and awareness-raising. This long-term partnership has yielded some significant conservation outcomes. The population of Hainan Gibbon has increased from 13 gibbons in 2 groups in 2003 to at least 23 in 3 groups at present. This Hainan Gibbon story book was published in 2014 to celebrate our 10-year collaboration with the management authority. We strived to foster our partnership, and to further strengthen our work into a deeper and broader level. Click here to read the extract.
