Assistant Conservation Officer (Projects Section)
Fauna Conservation Department

The Fauna Conservation Department is looking for an Assistant Conservation Officer with a passion for nature conservation to join our Project Team. The role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in conservation work, with duties including:

Major responsibilities

  • Support the Conservation Officer with project work, including report compilation and publication of results;
  • Carry out daily care of critically endangered turtles under the ex-situ captive breeding conservation project;
  • Assist with the work flow of all conservation project work, including wild snake rescue ,processing and release, frog and bat  monitoring and habitat management plus development of environmental enhancement activities;
  • Provide assistance to the Conservation Officer for the Natural History Collection specimen room in the form of specimen curation and regular inventory maintenance;
  • To conduct field work for the conservation projects when required;
  • Assist in development and management and monitoring of environmental enhancement projects at KFBG;
  • Assist with monitoring and record keeping for KFBG nature reserve fauna;
  • Assist with public events when required, including the Night Walk Programme;
  • Provide support and field input for the Pest Management Programme;
  • Assist with post-release monitoring surveys of rescued wildlife and report compilation and publication when required;
  • Provide support to the volunteer programme by recruiting and managing volunteers to assist with work duties;
  • Assist in the development of annual work plans for all project areas.

Job Requirements

  • Commitment to the mission, vision and values of KFBGC;
  • A degree in natural sciences/ecology is preferred;
  • At least 1 year of working experience including some knowledge of Hong Kong’s Natural History;
  • Excellent command of English and Cantonese, Mandarin also an advantage;
  • Proficient PC knowledge in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel;
  • Passion for nature;
  • Physically fit for outdoor environment;
  • A team player, analytical and self-motivated, with good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Required to join roster duties which include weekend and public holiday cover;
  • Valid Type I or II driving licence essential;
  • Open minded and recognize the validity of all spiritual paths.
