Temporary part-time Veterinarian (1 Sept 2023 – 1 Sept 2024)
Fauna Conservation Department
Major responsibilities
- Support regarding the provision of veterinary care to animals at KFBG, primarily wildlife casualties (injured native wildlife and confiscated exotic wildlife), long-term captive animals in our educational display collection, and our livestock section chickens.
- Health checks under general anaesthesia, including, where appropriate, radiography, blood sampling, bandage application, and other diagnostics or treatments as necessary.
- Surgical procedures if required.
- Assist with conscious animal checks and treatments as appropriate (e.g. triage of newly arrived animals, rechecks of wildlife casualties under treatment, deworming of confiscated turtles, etc).
- Routine preventative care.
- Humane euthanasia of animals for whom rehabilitation or rehoming are not viable options.
- Upkeep of clinical records.
Other duties
- Good communication and cooperation with the veterinary team (two vets and two qualified veterinary nurses).
- Good clinical case discussion and open to learning and sharing.
- Good communication and interaction with all the staff of the Fauna Conservation (and other) Departments.
- Precise and detailed record keeping.
Job Requirements
- Possession of a valid HKVSB registration.
- At least 3 years’ experience in an appropriate veterinary practice.
- Good English language is mandatory and Chinese preferred.
- A commitment to teamwork and able to work under pressure.
- Good writing and IT skills (data input into the Zoological Information Management System).
- Computer literacy (Excel, Word).
- Open minded and a positive thinker.
- Physically fit for outdoor work and willing to work on a roster that may include some weekends and public holidays.
- A valid driving license is useful.
