Every year 1st September is a special day as it is the International Primate day which reminds us to speak up for all primates. On that day in 2019, a young Rhesus Macaque (Macaca mulatta) was found injured in Shatin by a member of the public. The monkey was rescued by SPCA Inspectors and delivered to the KFBG Wild Animal Rescue Centre for health assessment, treatment and care.

Two live Madagascar Big-headed Turtles (Erymnochelys madagascariensis), were discovered inside the baggage of an outbound passenger at Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point in April 2018.

The best part of the rescue team’s work is getting to release the animals that they have cared for and rehabilitated back to the wild. You can see in these video clips how happy the birds are to be set free, and the health of the released birds reflects weeks of hard work undertaken by the animal carers in order to reach this positive event.

A member of public discovered an endangered juvenile Big-headed Turtle (Platysternon megacephalum) with a poachers hook attached to its mouth in late April 2019.
