Assistant Conservation Officer - Live Education Displays Section

Fauna Conservation Department

Responsibilities   

  • To assist the Conservation Officer in managing and maintaining to high standards of all Fauna public animal exhibits with specific responsibility for the Parrot Sanctuary, Wildlife Walkthrough, Reptile Garden, Insect House and Life on the Wing exhibit;
  • The supervision, organization and development of LED team activities;
  • To schedule and organize staff work routine and ensure work is carried to an acceptable standard and with safety considerations a priority;
  • To schedule and organize the rostering of staff day-off and annual leave;
  • Regular inspection of animals and their enclosures.

Requirements

  • Commitment to the mission, vision and values of KFBGC;
  • A degree in Biological Science, Ecology, Zoology etc; or extensive zoo experience;
  • At least 3 years relevant working experience, including wild animal husbandry;
  • Has solid supervision and staff management experience;
  • Experience in staff training and coaching preferred;
  • A further qualification in animal husbandry or related subjects is an advantage;
  • Good command of spoken and written English and Cantonese, Mandarin also an advantage;
  • Must be physically fit and willing to work outdoor in all weather conditions;
  • Confident in public speaking, self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision;
  • Valid Type I or II driving license is preferred;
  • Willing to work on weekends and holidays;
  • Open minded and recognize the validity of all spiritual paths.
