Assistant Horticultural Foreman (Native Tree Nursery)

Major Duties:

  • Preparing planting materials, such as soil sterilizing, sieving and mixing with compost;
  • Nursing of seedlings, including transplanting, watering, controlled fertilizing, weeding, and transporting seedlings and other materials;
  • Tree planting and its preparation work, including selection, transporting, labelling and planting seedlings;
  • Participate in field trips to identify, collect and understand the growing requirements of candidate native plant species for forest restoration, greening and landscaping in KFBG;
  • Maintaining the workplace safety, and assist in hygiene and pest control of the Native Tree Nursery and its worker’s restroom;
  • Assist in keeping plant records of the Native Tree Nursery;
  • Assist with seed germination, including preparing the seeds and germination medium, sowing, and daily maintenance;
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the planted living collection and landscape within NTN, including formative pruning, fertilizing and mulching;
  • Assist in the planning and execution of tree planting projects within KFBG, utilizing nursery stock, including species selection and planting;
  • Operate powered gardening tools for site maintenance;
  • Any other duties as requested by the management.

Requirements:

  • Commitment to the mission, vision and values of KFBGC;
  • At least 1-year experience in horticulture or silviculture; candidates possessing practical working experience would be an advantage;
  • Experience in using powered gardening tools;
  • Friendly, hardworking, with self-discipline;
  • Good organization ability and proficient in using MS word, excel and access;
  • Physically fit for outdoor work;
  • Able to work on occasional Sundays if necessary, or in holidays.
