Nursery Foreman (Upper Landscape Team)
Flora Conservation Department

Job Summary

We seek a passionate horticulturalist to join our team of gardeners, working in the unique nature reserve of KFBG to deliver ex-situ conservation of rare native plants. The Nursery Foreman will play a pivotal role in overseeing and growing KFBG’s world-class native plant nursery (with a focus on shrubs, climbers and herbs), selecting species for planting out and curating public displays. The successful candidate will engage in seed collection in the wild, nursery management and care for green landscapes around the Upper Hillside Section. This role requires a love of the outdoors and a desire to see native plants thrive.

 

Major responsibilities
  • Manage KFBG’s unique living collections of plants, grow and maintain the high standard of plants in the nursery.
  • Assist in field trip collection to collect plants in the wild for ex-situ conservation.
  • In charge of data entry after field trip collection and maintaining a regular review and updates of the plant database.
  • Assist in designing and enriching the plant diversity of the landscapes at Upper Hillside by tending to a range of horticultural duties including watering, weeding, thinning, pruning, and pest management.
  • Supervise subordinate(s) and ensure effective two-way communication between subordinate(s) and the Curator.
  • In addition, the post-holder will be expected to support the work of other horticultural and gardening teams as needed from time to time.

 

Job Requirements
  • You are expected to strive to work in line with the KFBG values, in pursuit of the Vision and Mission of the organisation, and to self-assess your performance in this regard.
  • Ideally, at least 3 years’ experience in greening/ landscape/ horticulture, including working in an outdoor setting in a tropical/sub-tropical environment, with basic working knowledge of fundamental horticultural or gardening skills.
  • Candidates possessing some knowledge of Hong Kong native plants and practical experience growing them would be a distinct advantage.
  • Experience with and comfortable handling common gardening tools (ideally both manual and power tools).
  • Possession of a valid Class 2 driving license would be a distinct advantage.
  • Dedicated to and physically fit for outdoor work.
  • Friendly, hardworking, self-disciplined and willing to learn.
  • Able to work on occasional Sundays or public holidays if necessary.
