The Gloria Barretto Orchid Sanctuary

The late Gloria Barretto was a local plantswoman who dedicated her life to the conservation of orchids and helped establish Orchid Haven in the 1970s to showcase native orchid diversity. This forested area at the head of KFBG’s valley features a secluded walled garden, renovated and renamed the Gloria Barretto Orchid Sanctuary in 2011, and leafy trails leading past a spectacular natural waterfall. Orchid Haven now displays a wide variety of orchids, including both native species and those from the wider Indo-Burma region. Spring and early autumn are the best times to see these splendid plants in bloom. Visitors can rest and breathe in the tranquillity here, as well as refill their water bottles with purified spring water.
