Flora Conservation

Donate NowKFBG homes more than 130 different kinds of ferns adorning the trees, rocks and undergrowth. Ferns grow in virtually all terrestrial ecosystems, but sadly many are gravely endangered as a result of habitat destruction and over-collection for use as ornamental plants and for medicine. Donate now to save the mystical world of massive fronds and golden rhizomes!
-
Donate NowFor centuries, orchids are heavily collected for their beautiful flowers and its purported medicinal value. This continues to bring many species close to extinction! To address the threats, our experts propagate and reintroduce threatened orchids back into the wild. We have growing experience of conducting scientifically informed projects in Hong Kong and further afield in the Indo-Burma region. Please join us to save these gems before they disappear!

Donate NowOur forest restoration project aims to restore degraded forests using a large number of native species to increase the species diversity. Over 8 years of planting, we present to you a forest with the highest diversity of native species in Hong Kong. The high tree diversity is calling for the return of native animals that are uncommon elsewhere. To recreate a balanced, self-sustained forest takes a long time and immense effort. You are invited on this long but worthwhile journey to rebuild our native forest.
-
Donate NowHong Kong is home to more than 400 tree species, a large proportion, is however considered endangered. The expansive forests that cover much of Hong Kong today are the result of secondary regrowth, made up of the diminished species pool that survived the centuries of exploitation, and almost nothing of the original forest remains. Tree conservation require large-scale propagation of a vast range of native species. Through trials and errors, slowly but steadily, we grow trees from seeds and eventually relocate them back into the wild to where they belong! Contribute now to save our native trees.
Fauna Conservation

Donate NowThe rescue programme has received nearly 60,000 injured and seized wild animals since 1994. Not only are we undertaking the conservation of native species, but we also rescue some of the world’s rarest species. Furthermore, we also share conservation messages and education opportunities with the public through Live Education Displays of un-releasable and disabled animals. Your DONATION can contribute toward the specialist food requirements of the diverse species in captivity, help with the enclosure management and upgrade and support the costs of veterinary and husbandry care of the animals under temporary holding and prior to their rehoming into conservation programmes around the globe.
-
Donate NowThe Sanctuary cares for raptors that are permanently disabled and cannot be released as they have lost their survival skills. Also birds that are imprinted to humans and several non-native species seized from the illegal wildlife trade by the authorities. All rescued birds are assessed for their suitability to join our public education programme. Meeting and observing the live birds will help to develop empathy for the individuals and an increased understanding of the natural and man-made pressures they face in the wild, and also help some visitors to connect or reconnect with nature and this is a key goal for KFBG programmes.

Donate NowChina has three species of otters; they once occurred throughout the country but threats like poaching and habitat degradation caused a catastrophic population collapse, and can no longer to found in many regions. KFBG is highly concerned of the otters’ precarious state and has been studying and conserving wild otters across South China, and promoting awareness on otter conservation. Pearl River Delta is one the very few areas in South China where otters still exist, but otters are close to extinction even in Hong Kong. We are conducting field and interview surveys throughout Hong Kong to gain a better understanding of this cryptic animal to develop Hong Kong into an otter-friendly metropolitan.

Donate NowUnique to Asian rainforests, gibbons are known for their captivating serenades and aerial acrobatics. Six of the 20 species call China home including the Hainan Gibbon – the world’s rarest primate with less than 40 individuals left in the world, and the Gaoligong Gibbon – one of the newest primates to be discovered. However, as their forest home are cleared to make way for urban and agricultural developments, all gibbon species are considered globally threatened with extinction. Your contribution can help save these ecologically important species.
