Activity Report

Sustainable Living and Agriculture Department (SLA) organised the first Aquaponics Conference in the region on 26 November 2016 at the Charles K. Kao Auditorium in Science Park Hong Kong, attended by 96 people from Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore and Macau. Leading professionals and trainers on aquaponics including Dr. Nate Storey (Bright Agrotech, USA), Mr. Gregory Chow (Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore), Ms. Steffi Lee (AVATA Aquaponics, Taiwan) and Mr. Shumin Wang (Aone Home, China) were engaged by SLA as speakers. Local speakers were also engaged to share their research findings, application and marketing models, educations programme and community engagement approaches during the Conference.

The Conference facilitated experience sharing and networking among local and overseas participants.

We would like to thank the efarm, Tai Lam Tunnel Bus Interchange Farm, Cityponics and ApFarm for organising post-conference field trips on 27 November 2016. The Conference and field trips widened participants’ understanding about the application and potential of aquaponics in urban food production.

The field trips deepened exchange on practical level.
