Roots & Shoots Programme - Jane Goodall Institute

A Better World

Founded by renowned primatologist Jane Goodall in 1977, the Jane Goodall Institue is a global nonprofit that empowers people to make a difference for all living things. Specifically, they seek to:

  • Create a worldwide network of young people who have learned to care deeply for their human community, for all animals and for the environment, and who will take responsible action to care for them.
  • Improve global understanding and treatment of great apes through research, public education and advocacy.
  • Contribute to the preservation of great apes and their habitats by combining conservation with education and promotion of sustainable livelihoods in local communities.

"The Roots & Shoots Programme is about making positive change happen - for our communities, for animals and for the environment. And it all starts with young people! With thousands of young people in almost 100 countries, the Roots & Shoots global network connects youths of all ages who share a desire to help make our world a better place.

This powerful, youth-driven network is a place where youth and adults come together to share ideas and inspiration, implement successful community service projects and participate in special events and global campaigns."
