Butterfly Path

The Butterfly Path leads visitors uphill from the Cascade Garden and the Chicken Houses through wild forest. The path curves up through dense forest. Tropical climbers and lianas hang from the canopy, and the sounds of the stream drift through the woods. The path follows an ancient route used, perhaps for centuries, by villagers seeking blessings and a good harvest at the stone altars on the summit of Kwun Yum Shan. A side-path leads to the Rainbow Pavilion. Near the top of the Butterfly Path visitors find the Butterfly Garden and Convent Garden and beyond these, Fern Walk.

Please download the 'Suggested Walking Routes' for details of routes, walking times, elevation, difficulty level and highlights.

Note:

In the high-visitor-traffic areas of the Lower Area there are many handrails, walls and painted step-edges.

In order to preserve the wild feeling of the walking trails in the semi-wild areas of the forest paths above the Raptor Sanctuary and Orchid Haven, and the wild areas of the Sky Trail, we provide relatively less safety infrastructure. Visitors are expected to take more personal responsibility for their safety in these areas.
