Join us to learn about the Living Schools; a movement that supports Indigenous projects in Brazil to strengthen and pass on traditional knowledge.
Through a web of affection and care, the delicate ways of knowing from Living Schools intend to activate the awakening of memories and the respect for all forms of life. The Living School movement supports the strengthening of the Indigenous peoples and their ancestral memories. Many of these traditions stop being practiced due to the impositions of capitalist society. Such memories, however, have not died, they are merely asleep. Awakening them requires an active and creative collective to paddle the canoe of transformation, moving through diverse narratives and bringing to our daily lives these ways of knowing that are so vital to life.
In this talk, Cristine Takuá shares how the Living Schools move forward through a collective action that is present in five territories of Indigenous peoples in Brazil: Guarani and Maxakali people at Nhe'ery in the Atlantic Forest, and Huni Kuin, Baniwa and Tukano/Dessana/Tuyuka in the Amazon. Guided by this intention, the goal is to strengthen a living and happy space so that the ancestral ways of knowing and being are transmitted to children and young generations.
This talk is part of Selvagem – an intersectional Indigenous-led collective from Brazil braiding together scientific, artistic and traditional knowledge, illuminating the mystery and splendour of the living world. To make the most of Cristine Takuá’s sharing, we recommend reading the notebook where she shares her journey with the Living Schools: click here.
