- Introduction
Do you know how many plant species can be found in the wild in Hong Kong?
Have you ever wondered how these native plants are pollinated?
Do you know which species can be used to make natural dyes and preserves or to celebrate particular festivals?
Plants are all around us, but how much do you know about the many ways in which they support our lives?
KFBG Plant Encounters programme, which offers four sessions per month, introduces the diversity and ecology of Hong Kong native plants. You will learn from staff of KFBG’s Flora Conservation Department about the generous green world that surrounds us, thus deepening your appreciation of the fragile beauty of the many rare species that naturally occur here. Income is used to support KFBG's ongoing plant conservation work.
Keep an eye on the monthly schedule and join us to delve into our beautiful but threatened flora – and grow your understanding of why protecting native plants is a vital shared responsibility.

Plant Encounters June Theme: Hiding in Plain Site – An Introduction to Various Long-overlooked Hong Kong Native Species
Despite its small size, Hong Kong supports remarkably rich plant diversity! More than 2,200 native plant species have already been documented, but almost every year the number grows as botanists discover native species that have not been recorded before. In this tour, we explore a range of species discovered and brought into cultivation at KFBG over the last decade and take a closer look at these recent additions to Hong Kong’s flora. Income will be used to support KFBG's plant conservation work. Spaces are limited, so sign up now!
