Nursery Technician (Lower Garden Team)
Flora Conservation Department

Major responsibilities

  • Assistance with seed germination, including preparing the seeds and germination medium, sowing, and daily maintenance.
  • Preparing cuttings for vegetative propagation of rare species.
  • Nursing seedlings, including transplanting, watering, weeding, and transporting seedlings and other materials.
  • Preparing planting materials, such as soil sterilizing, sieving and mixing with compost.
  • Tree planting and its preparation work, including selection, transporting, labelling and planting seedlings.
  • Assist in conducting field work in the countryside of Hong Kong and KFBG, for seed collection and seedling growth monitoring, etc.
  • Maintain workplace safety and assist in hygiene and pest control of the Native Herbs & Shrubs Nursery and its worker’s restroom.
  • Operate powered gardening tools for site maintenance.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate plant records and labelling for the Native Herbs & Shrubs Nursery.
  • To assist in implementing enhancement planting projects in the Upper Farm.
  • Assist in the supervision of volunteers and interns.

Job Requirements

  • You are expected to strive to work in line with the KFBG values, in pursuit of the Vision and Mission of the organization, and to self-assess your performance in this regard.
  • Would ideally have at least 1 years’ experience working with a range of plants, with a good knowledge of horticultural techniques.
  • Experience in hiking or other outdoor physical activities as well as interest and knowledge of native plants are an advantage.
  • Physically fit for outdoor work, including working on slopes.
  • Good command of spoken and written Chinese. Knowledge of English is an advantage.
  • Possession of a valid Class 2 driving license is an advantage.
  • Able to work on occasional Sundays if necessary, or on holidays.

You are expected to participate in activities arranged by KFBG with the intention of developing the organisational culture.
