Trace a forest bird in fine metal wire, then wear it home.
Walking through KFBG, one can hardly resist looking up to catch a vibrant splash of colour amongst the treetops. They are the mysterious, ever-graceful neighbours sharing this forest with us. In this session, the tutor will focus on native birds recorded at KFBG—such as the Verditer Flycatcher, Brown Wood Owl, and Common Emerald Dove—guiding you to capture the brilliant hues of these forest birds with your own hands.
Why the Bases Are Recycled Plastic
Though the woods may appear pristine, recent years have seen birds mistakenly bringing discarded human plastic fragments back to construct their nests. To address this, the tutor has specially collected everyday recycled plastic as creative bases, hoping that upcycling this waste will inspire reflection on the ‘Leave No Trace’ principle—taking trash away or disposing of it properly is all it takes to give them back a clean home.
Create Your Unique Art Piece
During the workshop, you will receive a recycled plastic base pre-drawn with a bird outline. As you immerse yourself in the mindful art of traditional cloisonné-inspired wire-framing, you will use fine metallic wire to trace the wings, pairing it with vibrant background shades to create translucent bird forms that beautifully catch the light. You will craft one to two wearable brooches or fridge magnets to take home. Once the session is over, you are most welcome to venture into KFBG’s trails with your artwork to spot their real-life counterparts!
