In the midst of our bustling city, why not slow down and experience the fusion of nature and art through delicate brushstrokes? Coinciding with the botanical art exhibition ‘Impressions, Expressions – feeling & depicting nature’, KFBG is offering special workshops featuring Hong Kong native plants as the theme, combining traditional Chinese Gongbi painting techniques to guide participants in experiencing the mindfulness and intricacy of this thousand-year-old art form.
Gongbi painting emphasises ‘achieving greatness through meticulous detail’. Each stroke represents both scientific observation of plant morphology and profound artistic interpretation. Through this half-day immersive experience, we hope to plant two seeds in participants' hearts —one of appreciation for local flora, and another of passion for traditional art — allowing this dual beauty to continue blossoming in everyday life.
Content
Tool Introduction: Introduction to basic materials needed for Gongbi painting, including paper, brushes, ink, colours, alum, gelatin, and seals, along with instructions on their use.
Technique Demonstration: Live demonstration of brush holding, brush movement, stroke techniques and colouring, teaching progressively from basic to advanced skills to complete an artwork. The instructor will provide feedback on participants' work throughout the session.
