This talk draws on learnings and insights of the ongoing work at Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden: we welcome Tsz Lam Yip, from our Regenerative Agriculture Department, and Jian Huan Yang, from the Kadoorie Conservation China Department. Both speakers have extensive experience addressing farmland issues, with Tsz Lam focusing on ecological agricultural practices and Jian on ecological scientific and research perspectives. In this dialogue, they will deepen the understanding of how agriculture and ecological integrity can coexist, promoting a holistic approach to land stewardship for a sustainable future.
The discussion will emphasise the importance of rural land in a global context and specifically in Hong Kong and how this can bring learnings for other experiments around the world. Key topics include the diverse functions of farmland – as a source of food, a habitat for wildlife, and a space which can have high ecological values – while also highlighting the essential human-nature relationship.
Tsz Lam and Jian Huan will share important connections between farming methods and the preservation of our natural environment. Through their dialogue, they will explore land use and its implications for both agriculture and ecology, examining how sustainable farming practices can enhance ecological health.
This talk is in Cantonese with translation into English.
KFBG 70th Anniversary – 70 years of love for people and nature
This talk inaugurates a combination of ‘in-house’ talks and dialogues being curated as part of our online series and marking the special occasion of KFBG’s 70th Anniversary. From now until the end of 2026, we are organising lively and in-depth exchanges drawing on KFBG’s approach to nature conservation, regenerative agriculture, sustainable living and holistic education. Through these spaces of exchange and reflection, we will learn how the legacy that started 70 years ago has evolved to respond to the challenges of today and its mission of creating harmony between humans and nature.
