KEP 2026 ‘Awakening of Memory’ Talk Series | Indigenous Sciences of Thriving Life with Pat McCabe

At one time, there were communities of human beings intent upon harmonising with all of life, water and intelligence of place. From an indigenous perspective, "culture" is not a human construct, but instead, it is the Mother Earth expressing herself as a human being in any given place. These communities were able to live in a kind of profound mutuality for thousands of years causing each to thrive and evolve in creative life-affirming ways.

In this talk, Indigenous elder Pat McCabe of the Diné Nation (or Navajo Nation, the largest federally recognized Native American reservation in the United States, covering over 27,000 square miles across Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah) shares humanity’s path toward what she names "Omnibeneficence" – to be of benefit and blessing to all. Every other life form or life family member seems to have evolved into this exact endeavour. The way they conduct their lives causes not only their own kind to evolve for seven generations, but also supports all surrounding life members to do the same. Western science calls these families "ecosystems", and each one supports the next and the next and the next. In this way, it would be correct to say that by extension, each life family member has found its path to Omnibeneficence.

Pat believes this was humanity's primary endeavour for a very long time, and this pursuit is the memory she is most dedicated to awakening in our modern world.
