Why this piece exists

Upcycled timber, reclaimed from KFBG

Co-created by Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden and local woodcraft studio Che Artisan Workshop, it is fashioned from timber reclaimed at KFBG, painstakingly shaped and polished by hand. Resting gracefully on a table, its silhouette resembles a small boat softly afloat; its smooth, flowing curve adding a touch of quiet elegance and poetry to your space.

The hidden joint

One gentle turn, and the stern becomes a holder

Its most delightful detail lies hidden at the stern: an ingenious mortise joint mechanism. When not in use, the joint sits perfectly flush with the wooden hull, clean and seamless. When you wish to light a stick of incense, simply rotate the mechanism gently outward to reveal a steady holder. No glue or metal screws are needed – it is held together solely by the precise interlocking wisdom of timber. Each gentle turn, opening or closing, is a heartfelt tribute to the traditional craft of mortise-and-tenon joinery.

Light a stick of incense and watch the delicate ribbon of smoke rise slowly, gently diffusing into the air. In this quiet moment, warm timber, soothing fragrance and peaceful time keep each other gentle company.
