Why this kit exists

Upcycled timber, reclaimed from KFBG

Co-created by Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden and local woodcraft brand OLO Puzzles, this retro wooden spinning top kit uses timber reclaimed at KFBG, giving a second, gentle life to old furniture and wooden structures that have weathered countless years. Shaped by skilled artisans, this salvaged wood is transformed into a set of sought-after playthings.

A toy with a long history

From ‘solitary delight’ to today’s play

The spinning top carries a rich and storied history: as early as the Later Wei period, it was recorded in literature as du le (獨樂, ‘solitary delight’), and remains a cherished childhood toy passed down through generations.

To weave this tradition into contemporary play, OLO Puzzles used traditional woodworking techniques to design a special launcher that boosts the top’s spinning speed. Through the hands-on making process, we invite you to feel the natural texture and warmth of the wood, discover the many joys of the spinning top, and craft a toy that is uniquely yours.
