This weekend programme is specially designed for children aged 5 to 11, jointly organised by KFBG and Ping Shan Tin Shui Wai Public Library, running in June and July 2026. Following our previous collaboration with Lai Chi Kok Public Library, this programme continues to feature nature-, ecology- and emotion-themed storybooks alongside creative extension activities, allowing children to embark on a journey of exploration, expression and creativity within the library – a space filled with knowledge and imagination.
Each week’s selected storybooks are drawn from the Hong Kong Public Libraries collection, covering themes such as self-awareness, emotional expression, nature observation, ecological care and imagination. Topics include finding one’s own voice, courage and protection, appreciating the beauty of nature and caring for the Earth. After each storytelling session, a variety of hands-on craft activities are provided, such as making paper whistles, butterfly clips, star ornaments, stone paintings, paper bamboo dragonflies, seed paper, scratch art with oil pastels and calming jars. These activities enable children to deepen their understanding of the stories through creative expression, while also enhancing their focus and creativity.
One of the sessions, to be held on 19 July, will features the storybook Little Fish, written by KFBG’s Chairman, Andrew McAulay. Through this story, children are guided to reflect on themes of hope, transformation and the connection between humans and nature, and can express their thoughts and imagination through scratch art creation.
About the Facilitator

Mani (Auntie Roots)
Artistic Companionship | Emotional Education | Creative Inspiration
Mani (Auntie Roots) has always been fuelled by a curious heart and a love for singing and painting. In her youth, she discovered that a paintbrush is more than just a tool – it is a secret passage for exploring the world and a way to whisper to her inner self within the "forest of emotions".
Becoming a mother in 2016 brought a profound realisation: emotions aren't troublemakers; they are friends living in our hearts, waiting to be embraced. This insight inspired her to weave the power of emotional awareness into the fabric of daily life.
Through warm, playful art activities, Mani leads children and parents alike to stay grounded in the present. She aims to sow seeds of joy and love in every heart, watching them take root and bloom, eventually connecting that love to every corner of the world.
