Job Summary
Daily husbandry and care of live animals managed under the ex-situ captive breeding conservation project. Assisting with coordination, development, monitoring and reporting of existing and new conservation projects, wildlife research collaborations and other activities that benefit wildlife with direct reporting to the Conservation Officer (Projects).
Project target scheduling, monitoring fieldwork, report writing and publications will be covered under the coordination role. Meetings with key stake holders internally and externally will be required. Responsibilities include management of the specimen collection, assisting the pest management officer under the animal conflict management programme and supervising volunteers.
Major responsibilities
- Provide a support role for the CO (Projects) for all aspects of the project work undertaken by the Fauna Conservation Department.

- Carry out daily care of animals under the department's ex-situ conservation projects.
- Assist with the work flow for the Wild Snake Rescue Project. Checking, processing, release and data management plus draft report compilation (Quarterly to the Police, Yearly project review, and Yearly python data report to AFCD). Also assist with regular onsite snake nuisance response call outs.
- Provide assistance to the Project CO for the Natural History Collection in the form of specimen curation and regular inventory maintenance.
- Provide assistance with project fieldwork when required.
- Assist with the development, management and monitoring of environmental enhancement projects.
- Assist with fauna monitoring (field input and data collation) in the KFBG nature reserve.
- Assisting with report compilation, work plan development and publication of results.
- Coordination and management of project volunteers.
- Provide driving support to the department and team.
- Provide support and field input for the Pest Management Programme.
- Assist with public events when required, including the Night Walk Programme.
- Provide support within the Fauna Department:

- Attend department meetings and relevant meetings with partners and collaborators.
- Respond to Public Enquiries as advised by the Section Head.
- Assist with translating articles and social media posts into Chinese and cross-checking translation when required.
- Represent the department at appropriate conferences and workshops where the project work can be shared.
Other Duties:

- Any further duties that support the Fauna Department and organisational Mission as advised by the Department Head.

- To participate in activities arranged by KFBG with the intention of developing the organisational culture.
Job Requirements

- A degree in natural sciences/ecology is preferred.
- At least 1 year of working experience including some knowledge of Hong Kong’s Natural History.
- Excellent command of English and Cantonese, Mandarin also an advantage.
- Proficient PC knowledge in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Passion for nature.
- Physically fit for outdoor environment.
- A team player, analytical and self-motivated, with good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Required to join roster duties which include weekend and public holiday cover.
- Valid Type I or II driving licence.
