To support local primary schools in navigating the changes and opportunities of the new Primary Science Curriculum, which emphasises scientific inquiry, STEAM learning and sustainability education, Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG) continues to advance the Nature-based Eco-literate Experiential Education Programme (NEEEP).
In the 2025/26 academic year, NEEEP partnered with eight local primary schools to co-develop 14 sets of eco-literacy experiential learning journeys and teaching resources (Teaching and Learning Resource) through co-planning and professional exchange. These resources are integrated into regular lessons and aligned with the learning objectives outlined in the curriculum documents. In classroom implementation, these materials not only effectively support teachers' instruction but also enable students to actively construct knowledge in authentic natural contexts, enhancing their learning motivation and self-directed inquiry skills.
Entering its second year, NEEEP will further deepen and expand while promoting resource sharing. Building on co-planning and shared values, the Teaching and Learning Resource will be progressively opened for adoption and adaptation by more schools, offering a flexible mode of participation. At the same time, NEEEP is inviting four additional schools to join as partner schools for deeper collaboration. Through sustained cross-school co-planning, schools will co-develop and refine curriculum design, enabling students to engage in richer outdoor and inquiry-based learning and develop key competencies in observation, questioning, experimentation and reflection.
Positioning KFBG as a ‘Nature’s Classroom’, NEEEP invites schools to co-create meaningful, place-based learning experiences in an authentic natural environment, where students can explore nature through all their senses. The programme aims to:
- Co-develop locally relevant eco-literate experiential pedagogical materials with schools;
- Strengthen teaching practices through nature-based professional development and training;
- Engage students through hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences on campus and at KFBG;
- Foster a network of like-minded schools committed to sustainability and environmental education;
- Facilitate knowledge exchange and resource sharing within the local primary school community.
Phase 2 Overview (2026/27 – 2027/28)
- 4 new partner schools in this phase (total of 12 local primary schools to be engaged)
- 80% subsidy for teacher professional development training;
- 33% subsidy for student experiential learning activities,
including visits to KFBG or school-based programmes; - Co-develop approximately 1 to 2 ‘Teaching and Learning Resource’ per school per academic year (co-development of at least 30 sets of school-based eco-literacy experiential Teaching and Learning Resource in this programme);
- Establishment of a resource-sharing platform (Chinese version only in this phase) to disseminate materials to primary schools across Hong Kong
