Sound is everywhere. The body is always with us. Nature quietly accompanies.
Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG) invites you to join the ‘Singing Bowl Yoga Retreat – Three Days Harmonising with Nature through Sound,’ co-organised with Allpamama. Set within the embrace of mountain forests, this retreat offers a space to explore the connection between singing bowl sounds, yoga and mindful awareness of body and mind.
The three-day journey centres on singing bowls and the traditional eight limbs of yoga (Ashtanga). The programme includes singing bowl culture (Bowl Culture) and techniques, yoga philosophy, asana, pranayama, meditation and nada yoga. Whether you are a beginner or already have experience in yoga or singing bowl practice, Allpamama teachers guide you to slow down. Through listening, breathing and embodied practice, you will deepen your inner sense of calm and stability.
Sound is indispensable in traditional yoga: practitioners recite the Yoga classic, the Bhagavad Gita, to realise the path of yoga, while Nada Yoga uses sound as a bridge to achieve inner-outer unity. Through singing bowl practice and embodied experiences in nature, we will explore the relationship between traditional yoga wisdom and sound, and understand the shared qualities of singing bowls and yoga in terms of breath, focus and awareness.
This is a journey to listen again to the body, the breath and the inner voice within nature. Away from daily noise, the mountain forest holds a space of slow, focused time for you, inviting you to feel the deeper meaning: ‘Now is yoga; sound is the path’.
‘Now is yoga; sound is the path. Through yourself, return to yourself.’
Retreat daily schedule summary*
|
Day 1|Balance of Sound and Heart |
Beginning with Bowl Culture and yoga philosophy, we use pranayama and singing bowl meditation (Sounditation®) to connect sound and breath. In the resonance of the bowls, we stabilise the body and mind, attune to the natural frequency, and open the inner gateway to ‘sound and heart’. |
|
Day 2|Flow of Sound and Body |
Morning practice begins with awareness of sound and breath.
Integrating yoga philosophy, Bowl Culture and singing bowl techniques, we cultivate a steady rhythm of body and mind through asana practice. We study yoga philosophy, chanting and pratyahara and use singing bowl practice to notice subtle shifts in body and mind.
In the evening, we walk slowly through the forest, listening to natural sounds and interacting with the mountain landscape. |
|
Day 3|Unity of Sound and Stillness |
The day begins with morning practice, continuing to connect with awareness of sound and breath.
Exploring the essence of sharing sound, participants practise the singing bowl to guide their partners into deep rest, experiencing calm and profound relaxation in the process. |
*Each day includes morning practice, evening practice, and a thematic lesson.
Team - Allpamama
Allpamama was founded in 2010 by artist Tsang Man-tung. The name originates from the pre-Inca Quechua language, meaning ‘Mother Earth’. With art, music, life, and meditation as its core pillars, Allpamama offers a diverse range of meditation courses and activities. In addition to Himalayan singing bowls, various sound media are used to guide participants back to their true selves. The teaching emphasizes ‘listening,’ ‘awareness,’ and ‘cultivation,’ encouraging participants to become aware of everyday life through listening and to transform personal habits through practice.
Integrating meditation, art and stage aesthetics, Allpamama has produced seven Theatrical Meditation productions since 2017, with all creations rooted in personal cultivation. The Sounditation® project was also initiated, using sound to lead participants into a state of meditation, then letting go of the self – ‘me’ – and returning to stillness.
Collaborating partners have included the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Hong Kong Museum of Art, M+ Museum, West Kowloon Cultural District, Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden, Dharma Drum Mountain (HK), International Bodhisattva Sangha (Taiwan), ArtisTree, and Lululemon, among others. Allpamama continues to promote a meditative lifestyle through cross-disciplinary collaboration.
