60th Anniversary: 1956 – 2016 Milestones

Welcome to the commemorative web-page for the 60th Anniversary of Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden. Here we have included a fascinating ’Timeline’ spanning the years 1956 to 2016. We invite you to take a look back in time and read about the key events of our past under our different legal entities: as the Kadoorie Experimentation and Extension Farm and Botanic Garden, under the Kadoorie Agricultural Aid Association (KAAA); and as the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden Corporation (KFBGC), which was established in 1995 under Government Ordinance (CAP1156) and the subsequent development of our conservation departments.

Join the “KAAA Heritage Hunt”

Beyond helping farmers stand on their own two feet through agricultural aid programmes, the KAAA donated bags of cement to fund the construction of houses, bridges, roads, paths, dams, and various agricultural facilities. The KAAA Heritage Map displays the historical traces of these built or sponsored structures, illustrating the diverse aid projects and rural construction anecdotes from that era.

We cordially invite you to participate in the KAAA Heritage Hunt to help explore and discover these heritage sites scattered across the various districts of Hong Kong. Should you stumble across old buildings or facilities bearing the "KAAA" marking while hiking in the countryside, please carefully record the map grid reference and upload it to us along with photographs and a location description.

Your contribution will help us complete the KAAA Heritage Map and preserve this significant chapter of rural history.
